Nursery to Primary 1 Transition

We know that the Nursery to Primary 1 transition can be a stressful time for pupils, parents and carers. Here  you'll find some useful links and answers to your questions. Please pop back frequently as we will add more information throughout the year and especially in the weeks leading up to your child's Nursery - Primary 1 transition date.

Transition Challenges 2026

In the weeks leading up to your child's transition to Primary 1 we will pop some challenges on here so that your child can get ready for their new role as a pupil at Parkhead Primary School. The challenges are mostly based around skills we would hope that our new P1s will have learned before arriving at Parkhead Primary School. These can include:

• Being able to take their coat on and off and do up zips/buttons.
• Being able to tie their shoe laces (velcro is your friend!).
• Being able to recognise their own name (handy for identifying coat pegs/tray and clothing labels!)
• Being able to toilet themselves (also wash and dry their hands!)
• Being able to cut up food for themselves.
